 Direction (Petunjuk)

Instruction or Direction adalah petunjuk untuk melakukan suatu hal dengan melalui tindakan-tindakan atau langkah-langkah yang runtut. Contohnya dapat dilihat pada Procedure Text, Manual, atau ketika seseorang menunjukan jalan ke tempat tertentu,

Contoh Kalimat:

• Turn left when you see a roundabout. (belok kiri ketika kamu melihat bunderan)
• Turn right at the end of the road and my house is number 67. (belok kanan di akhir jalan dan nomor rumahku adalah 67)
• Wash the mangoes to remove any dirt. Then peel the ripe mangoes (Cuci mangga untuk membuang kotoran. Kemudian kupas mangganya)
• Put the chopped garlic and onion into the hot vegetable oil. Fry them a while. (masukkan potongan bawang merah dan bawang putih ke dalam minyak panas)
• Press and hold the Power button. If the iPhone is already on, the screen will wake up and you can
• unlock the screen. If the iPhone is off, you'll need to keep holding the button until you see the Apple logo (Tekan dan tahan tombol power. Basic Terms and Rooms

, it is vital to start with the basics. Let's take a look at the list of basic terms related to rooms in a house:

• Room: a section within the house that is separated by walls; each room serves a specific function.
• Living room: a room in a house for general and informal everyday use.
• Kitchen: the name of the room where food is prepared and cooked.
• Dining room: a room where meals are served and eaten.
• Bedroom: the name of the room for sleeping in.
• Bathroom: a room containing a toilet and typically also a sink and either a bathtub or shower.
• Hallway: a long passage inside a building with doors leading to rooms on either side.
• Closet: a small room or compartment for storing clothes, shoes, and other items.
• Floor: the lower surface in a room that you walk on.
• Ceiling: the upper of a room; opposite the floor.
• Wall: a vertical structure, often made of various materials, that encloses or separates home rooms.
• Window: a fitting in a wall or roof that allows light and air to enter a room.
• Door: a hinged, sliding, or revolving barrier at the entrance to a building, room, or vehicle.

Additional Names for Rooms

• Sunroom or solarium: the name of the room with a lot of windows or glass walls that let in a lot of natural light.

Pengertian Procedure text

procedure text adalah salah satu jenis teks yang berfungsi untuk menginformasikan kepada pembaca tentang langkah-langkah melakukan sesuatu. (Procedure text is a text which aims to inform the readers about the steps to do something). 

Biasanya, teks ini diawali dengan “How to……” Contohnya, “How to operate……” atau “How to make……”

tujuan procedure text itu apa? Teks ini digunakan untuk menjelaskan bagaimana sesuatu dibuat, dilakukan, atau digunakan dengan langkah-langkah yang jelas dan berurutan. 

(The purpose of procedure text is to show how something is made, used, or done through a sequence of steps).

 

Language Features/Ciri-ciri Kebahasaan Procedure text

Berikut beberapa ciri kebahasaan dari procedure text:

1.       Teks ini membahas fakta mengenai pembuatan atau penggunaan sesuatu, sehingga kita perlu menggunakan simple present tense.

2.       Karena kita perlu menjelaskan beberapa steps, kita harus menggunakan kalimat perintah (imperative sentence). Contoh kalimat dalam procedure text adalah add 5 onions, get some yeast and pan. Yang paling penting nih sobat, kalimat perintah harus  diawali dengan kata kerja (verb). Contohnya adalah mix, stir, boil, add, turn on, get, dan lain sebagainya.

3.       Dalam procedure text, ketika kita ingin menjelaskan langkah-langkah pembuatan/penggunaan, ada kalanya kita perlu menghubungkan satu kalimat dengan kalimat yang lain. Maka dari itu, kita perlu kata penghubung/connectives. Contohnya: first, second, after that, then, finally, last, dan sebagainya.

4.       Untuk memberikan keterangan waktu atau durasi pembuatan dalam procedure teks, kita perlu menggunakan kata keterangan (adverb). Contohnya adalah in 5 minutes, for an hour, dan seterusnya. Selain itu, kita juga bisa menggunakan keterangan cara (adverb of manner). Contohnya: slowly, fastly, rapidly, powerfully, etc.

 

Generic structures/Struktur Procedure text

1.      Aim/Goal

Di bagian yang pertama dalam menulis text procedure adalah aim/goal yang berarti tujuan. Biasanya, tujuan ini terletak pada judul yang menunjukkan tujuan dibuatnya teks tersebut.

Contoh: How to Make Dalgona Coffee

2.      Ingredients/Materials

Di bagian yang kedua, kalian diharuskan untuk menulis ingredients/material. Penulisan ingredients/material ini berguna untuk menjelaskan apa saja bahan-bahan atau alat yang digunakan untuk membuat sesuatu dalam procedure text tersebut.

Contoh: The ingredients to make Dalgona coffee are coffee and sugar. We also need a spoon and warm water.

3.      Steps/Methods

Di bagian akhir, yaitu penulisan steps/methods (langkah/metode). Bagian ini berisi tentang langkah-langkah apa saja yang dilakukan untuk mencapai tujuan dari procedure text. 

Contoh: First, wash the tomatoes.

 

Contoh Procedure Text (RECIPE)

 

How to Make Scrambled Eggs

Ingredients:

- 2 eggs

- Milk

- 1 teaspoon of butter

- A pinch of salt and water

Steps:

1.    First, crack the eggs into a small bowl and add a pinch of salt and pepper. Whisk until all is well blended.

2.    In a frying pan, add butter and let it melt.

3.    Pour in the eggs and milk, and wait for around 20 seconds, do not stir it.

4.    After that, fold the eggs to the center and stir it with a spatula.

5.    Repeat the previous step until all the eggs are mostly cooked.

6.    Remove the eggs from the heat, and continue to fold and stir the eggs for around a minute.

7.    Last, lift the eggs, and put them on a serving plate. Your scrambled eggs are ready.
